Program Mentoring

It is critical to the success of the program that each student in the program have a mentor who monitors their academic progress, provides advice, helps secure resources and holds the students accountable. Mentors will typically work with 1 or 2 students. Mentors will be recruited from the East Bay business community, Richmond High School alumni, students from nearby colleges, and community volunteers. It is anticipated the program will require 25-30 volunteer mentors each year. Mentors will be encouraged to communicate with their students at least once per week on the phone, or via email and to meet at least once per month. The key is regular, consistent contact so the students feel like they have a supporter and someone watching over them who cares and is their advocate. Mentors will be advised of their students’ attendance and academic performance on a regular basis by the Program Director.
